 Wedding dresses are all over priced no matter what. That said it depends upon how much hand work is done on the dresss and the material which is used on the dress that costs money . It's intensive work to apply seed pearls and sequins on yards and yards of lace or satin . And the designers name comes with a price .

How does our dressmaking service work?

Depending upon the dress and train and additions of bows and petticoats or hoop skirts , tiny buttons , yards of material and sometimes layers of material plus the linings. The hem may be hand cut lace along with the neckline .

And these days I am not impressed with the dresses that they are selling for thousands of dollars other little or no handwork at all . If I were getting married today I think I'd have my wedding dress made and I would apply all the handwork myself to the finished product and have a beautiful princess dress for very little money . Half an hour or an hour a day while watching tv you easily could apply seed pearls , sequins and embroidery yourself by ordering the materials to be used in bulk . You could even have a party like they did and still do like a quilters party where a bunch of women apply by hand in different areas and it's done quickly .

What is included in your fittings?

Most wedding dresses I have seen should not have cost 1/4 of the price they do . But a bridal shop has to supply them and have someone there to oversee them being tried on . You have losses with the dresses as they can be incorrectly tried on, sent back, make up on them act. They have to be spotless . They are bulky too and take up space for display too .

And they know brides will pay the price for a wedding dress they want to wear . They also know many people do not know how to sew anymore. So that's another reason they can rip you off by over charging for a dress. There is a huge mark up for anything that is associated with weddings .

I had a beautiful dress which was extremely detailed all over the entire dress and I loved it . It was my aunts dress and always kept for me . It was more beautiful than anything I have seen any princess wear today . I have no idea what it would cost to have bought it today . My guess is maybe 65 to 100 thousand dollars . If I had to I'd definitely spend 3 k on materials and labor if that and appliqué all the pearls and sequins, bows and hand cut the lace myself . I'd work with a seamstress and if I had to I'd go to a local quilters club and ask the women to help out . They do excellent and accurate detailed work with great patience . There is no way I would pay the price they want for wedding dresses these days.
